The family of Dennis Cometti say the broadcasting legend would be “humbled and amazed” by the wide-ranging and heartfelt tributes from the footy world following his death earlier this month.

Cometti was celebrated as one of Australian sport’s most significant modern-day figures in the wake of his death, with footy greats, fans and even Prime Minister Anthony Albanese singing his praises in the wake of his passing at age 76.
In a statement provided to Seven ahead of West Coast’s clash with Gold Coast - in a Sunday afternoon slot that Cometti would so frequently be the voice of - the commentator’s family acknowledged the considerable response from the Australian public.

“A reflection of his craft, how he moved through the world, and the overarching emotion of sport itself.
“I’m sure he is humbled, and amazed seeing it all. As are we.
“Truly grateful & touched. The Cometti family.”

Cometti is survived by his wife Velia, daughter Ricki and son Mark.
The family last week confirmed they had accepted the State Government’s offer of a State Memorial Service, which is set to take place over the coming weeks.
