Adam Simpson’s tenure as coach of West Coast has come to an end with the club and premiership leader parting ways on Tuesday morning.
After weeks of speculation, the Eagles confirmed the decision in a statement that Simpson would leave the position immediately.
“The West Coast Eagles and senior coach Adam Simpson have mutually agreed that his 11-year tenure at the club will come to an end,” the statement said.
Future
Simpson says he is likely to take a break for a bit but he still “loves” footy and there may be a chance he stays with the game down the road.
Also has said he loves Perth a few times.
A tough morning for the boys in blue and gold
Simpson thanks the fans
Simpson had nothing but kind words for the fans.
Last night
Simpson told 7NEWS last night he wasn’t seeking any clarity on his job but he said not long after saying that he was given the tap on the shoulder he was looking for.
Early fan reactions
While many fans have been calling for change they still want more respect for their premiership coach from the club.
Thankful
Adam Simpson has given his last formal address.
“We fell in love with the place straight away and the people,” he said.
“I’ve had tremendous leaders around me and the players, and it really felt like everyone had my back from the day I got here.
“I feel like I’m retiring all over again. I probably need a break, to be honest.
“The time is right.”
He added a joke for his kids needing to give up their Disney+ subscription.
Simpson fires back
Simpson’s first words were to refute Pyke, saying he hadn’t decided to coach on Sunday yet.
Don Pyke
Speaking at a press conference that has just got underway CEO Don Pyke has revealed he and Simpson decided that Adam had “nothing left to give” the club.
However, the premiership coach will be given a farewell game against Brisbane on Sunday.
Don Pyke speaks
“We all know why we are here,” Pyke says.
“What to say about Adam? I first met him as a young energetic coach coming across.
”We respect the last three years have been tough, but the discussions I’ve had around the club is that it’s time and time for a fresh start.
“To his credit as he always did he put the club first and said he had no more left to give.
“We requested Adam to coach one final time this weekend.”
