Geelong have farewelled midfielder Cameron Guthrie after confirming the veteran has not been offered a contract for 2026.

The Cats announced the decision on Monday, bringing an end to a brilliant 240-game career at the Cats.

Guthrie, 33, departs the club as a two-time best and fairest winner, including in 2022 when Geelong won the premiership.

Injury restricted Guthrie to just 10 more games after the 2022 grand final as his body continued to let him down.

As well as the best and fairest award in 2022, Guthrie was also the club champion in 2020 — the same year he was named an All-Australian.

Geelong footy boss Andrew Mackie paid tribute to Guthrie’s contribution to the club.

“Cam has been an outstanding and dedicated servant of the Geelong Football Club, both on and off the field,” Mackie said.

“He has been ultra-consistent and had the special ability to elevate his game in key moments and times of success, particularly throughout our 2022 premiership campaign.

“Cam will always be a great Geelong person, with his influence extending well beyond what he achieved on the field.”

Guthrie was drafted at pick No.23 in the 2010 AFL draft, debuted in Round 1 the next season before enjoying a breakout campaign in 2012.

He became a mainstay across half-back, then later in the midfield, and played alongside younger brother Zach in the 2022 flag.

But foot, quad, achilles and calf injuries derailed his next three seasons and while Guthrie played VFL late in the 2025 campaign, he couldn’t crack Geelong’s AFL team in finals.

Having not played at AFL level since Round 11 last year, it is unclear whether Guthrie will look to continue his career elsewhere.

Commentator Josh Jenkins said clubs should take a look at recruiting the “diligent professional”.

Guthrie becomes the fourth player to depart Geelong since they lost the grand final to Brisbane.

Fellow veteran Mitch Duncan retired, and will join West Coast as an assistant coach, while untried youngster Patrick Retshcko was traded to Richmond and Xavier Ivisic was delisted.

Veteran defender Jed Bews is also without a contract for next year, along with youngsters George Stevens and Ted Clohesy.
