Port Adelaide emerge as suitor for uncontracted Carlton forward Jesse Motlop

Port Adelaide have emerged as a suitor for Carlton small forward Jesse Motlop, with negotiations over a contract extension at the Blues dragging into the off-season.
Jesse’s father Daniel was a fan favourite at the Power, kicking 115 goals in 83 electric games between 2006 and 2011. A potential trade would sensationally bring the Motlop family back to Alberton 14 years after Daniel’s retirement.
As it stands, Jesse’s preference is to remain at Carlton but, after a fast start to contract talks at the beginning of 2025, discussions have stalled over the terms of the deal.

The 21-year-old is high on the Blues’ priority list, which no longer includes Brodie Kemp, after the utility re-signed at Carlton for a further two years.
Kemp’s extension will keep him at Ikon Park until at least 2027, when he will reach his eighth season.
Carlton list manager Nick Austin told the club’s website he was thrilled to have Kemp secured.
“We see a lot of promise in Brodie, so to have him re-sign is a real positive. He is coming off a consistent 2024 and was really finding a place in the forward line,” said Austin.
“Whilst we all felt for Brodie after his injury, we can’t fault his diligence and determination during a tough period. He has really attacked his rehab, so today’s announcement is a real testament to his positive mindset and desire to be the best player he can be.
“Brodie’s willingness to play whatever role asked of him tells you a lot about his character and why he is such a loved member of the group: we are excited to see Brodie continue to grow his game.”
