Footy fans were left furious on Friday night after a last minute Qantas cancellation of a flight from Adelaide to Sydney for the preliminary final between the Swans and Port Adelaide.

Qantas last week announced it was adding additional flights from Adelaide to Sydney but one flight was cancelled an hour before boarding on Friday morning.

A spokesperson said the flight was cancelled because of an engineering issue and that most customers were accommodated with the earliest possible flights to Sydney via Melbourne or Canberra.

Some customers opted to take a direct flight to Sydney, arriving at 6.45pm, cutting it fine for the game’s kickoff.

The Lions and the Swans last played in a grand final way back in 1899 when the teams were Fitzroy and South Melbourne.

Brisbane will have a chance to redeem themselves after playing in last years grand final where they lost to Collingwood by four points.

Sydney last had a premiership within their grasp in 2022 however were smashed by Geelong by 81 points.
