Sheppard was forced to retire from football in 2021 following ongoing concussion symptoms. He is still engaged in legal proceedings with the AFL and his former club.

The 33-year-old had an accomplished 216-game career, including being named an All-Australian in 2020.

The champion defender made his return to football late last year, joining WAFL club East Fremantle as their commercial manager after working in Broome over the past few years.
