Swans sex assault investigation: Police to hand over evidence amid ‘growing belief no charges will be laid’

Police officers investigating sexual assault claims involving several high-profile Sydney Swans players are reportedly set to hand over a brief of evidence.

The sexual crimes squad has been investigating allegations made by exotic dancers against Isaac Heeney, Chad Warner, Nick Blakey and James Jordan on August 17 at Melbourne’s Pullman Hotel.

The detectives are set to pass on evidence they have collected to the Victorian Director of Public Prosecutions by the end of October, The Herald Sun reports.

An assessment will then be undertaken on whether there is any evidence that would secure a conviction against any of the four players.

However, according to the report, “there is a growing belief in AFL and legal circles that sex assault charges may be difficult to prosecute following a review of statements”.

“Letters may also be received by police soon submitting that a prima facie case does not exist and the men should not be charged,” the report also stated.

The exact nature of the sexual assault allegations has never been confirmed by police, however it’s believed one of the women claims she was slapped four times on the buttocks but was only paid for three.

Heeney, Warner, Blakey and Jordan were stood down by the club for the remainder of the 2026 AFL season, alongside Riley Bice who hired the women but is only being treated as a witness in the investigation.

The Sydney Swans suspended them for breaching club standards by staying out late drinking and bringing women back to the hotel, but stressed the suspension was separate from the police investigation.

The four players have always maintained their innocence and this masthead does not suggest they engaged in any wrongdoing.

The players returned to the club for the first time last week, speaking to their teammates and addressing the group, with Heeney saying he was “extremely thankful they could give us their time and understanding”.
