The goal from their former teammate caused tensions to boil over as players from both sides ended up scrapping on the ground. Sydney forward Joel Amarty was eventually awarded a free kick and booted a freebie through the big sticks to undo the visitors’ good work.
The Blues were eager to go after Curnow from before the bounce, while his former skipper, Patrick Cripps, also attempted to rough his mate up with a big bump.
However, the forward was able to avoid the contact as Cripps ended up on the turf.
Curnow was not the only member of his trade to land a blow, as former Swan Oliver Florent landed an accidental knee to Isaac Heeney’s head that forced his former teammate into a concussion test during the long break.
The Swans star was cleared to return in the third term as the contest finally spiced up.
The game was in desperate need of it after just six goals were kicked in the first half on a dewy SCG.
