Andrew McQualter has swung more changes to West Coast’s coaching staff following his first season in charge.

The Eagles were finally put out of their misery when their dire one-win campaign ended on Saturday, and fresh hope for the future arrived in the form of Tuesday’s long-awaited announcement that Harley Reid had re-signed with the club.

Now McQualter is making his mark to transform West Coast with two more coaches departing and a former Melbourne colleague heading west.

Midfield coach Jarrad Schofield has left the Eagles after staying on this year following his stint as interim last year.

The 50-year-old started his AFL coaching career at Port Adelaide, where he was a premiership player, before joining the Eagles ahead of the 2022 season.

“I want to personally thank the playing group, staff and fans for all their support,” Schofield said.

“I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to develop and further my coaching over the past four years.

“I wish the players all the best for the future and look forward to my next chapter.”

Ruck coach Ryan Turnbull has also departed, with the club saying he had also “stepped away due to increasing work and family commitments”.

The 1994 premiership player was credited for his “outstanding dedication” to the AFL, WAFL and AFLW programs.

“We would like to thank Jarrad and Ryan for their commitment to our club during their respective tenures on our coaching panel,” football boss John Worsfold said.

“Both are former players who returned to the club and have given their utmost effort and dedication to developing our players and improving our team.

“We are working through our coaching structure for next season and will communicate any further updates to our members and fans in due course.”

Schofield and Turnbull will follow long-time assistant and former AFLW senior coach Luke Webster out of the club.

Webster’s exit after 10 seasons, including the past two as backline coach, was announced earlier this month.

The trio will be replaced in part by Sam Radford, who will reunite with McQualter after they worked together at the Demons in 2024.

West Coast are yet to confirm his role for 2026.

“I’m really excited to be coming to the Eagles,” Radford said.

“It’s a club I’ve long admired for its history, loyal supporters and success on and off the field.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to work again with ‘Mini’ (McQualter), he is a coach I hold in high regard having worked with him previously.

“I’m excited for the challenge ahead and can’t wait to get to work.”

Worsfold said Radford’s existing relationship with McQualter is “a real asset”.

Radford started at the Dees in the AFLW before moving into VFL and AFL, most recently leading Melbourne’s midfield and strategy.

“Sam has made a great contribution to the club across several of our football programs,” Dees football boss Alan Richardson said.

“He started with Mick and our AFLW program, had a significant role in the development of players at Casey, and then transitioned into our AFL program where his knowledge and strategic thinking have been first class.

“Sam has worked across multiple programs and played a really important role in how we educate our players with our game style and strategy.

“While we will miss having him in the red and blue, we understand the importance of family and fully support his decision to head back to Perth.

“We wish Sam, his wife Ange and their kids all the very best for the future.”
