NBA superstar Luka Doncic breaks silence after bombshell trade from Dallas Mavericks to Los Angeles Lakers
NBA superstar Luka Doncic has broken his silence following his bombshell trade to the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday.
The league was shocked to its core by one of the biggest surprise trades in history, with Anthony Davis also shipped to the Mavericks as part of the three-team mega-trade.
Speaking for the first time on Monday (AWST), Doncic addressed his former team’s fans directly in a social media post that started: “Dear Dallas.

“I thought I’d spend my career here and I wanted so badly to bring you a championship.
“The love and support you have all given me is more than I could have ever dreamed of.
“For a young kid from Slovenia coming to the U.S. for the first time, you made North Texas feel like home.
“In good times and bad, from injuries to the NBA Finals, your support never changed.
“Thank you for not only sharing my joy in our best moments, but also for lifting me up when I needed it the most.”
The 25-year-old guard, who reportedly had a fractured relationship with the Mavericks before his shock exit, did not address the franchise in the post.
Instead, he went on to express gratitude to “all the organisations I’ve worked with throughout the Dallas community”.
“Thank you for letting me contribute to your important work and join you in bringing light to those who need it,” he said.
“As I start the next part of my basketball journey, I am leaving a city than will always feel like a home away from home.”
He ended the emotional statement with a heartfelt message.
“Dallas is a special place, and Mavs fans are special fans. Thank you from the bottom of my heart,” he said.
Doncic then addressed his new home in Hollywood, where he will play alongside NBA legend LeBron James, on his Instagram story, writing: “Grateful for this amazing opportunity.”
“Basketball means everything to me, and no matter where I play the game, I’ll do so with the same joy, passion and goal - to win championships,” he said.
LeBron also weighed in on the shock trade, bidding farewell to Davis on Instagram: “Love you my dog!! Go crazy over there! Woe 4L! See you soon.”
The Mavericks will give up Doncic, Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris to the Lakers for Davis, Max Christie and a 2029 first-round pick, as reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania on Sunday.
The Utah Jazz will also help facilitate the deal, receiving LA depth guard Jalen Hood-Schifino as well as two second-round selections.
