But Pant lost his head slightly and went after a Head delivery that went straight down the throat of Mitch Marsh at long-on.
After taking the wicket, Head brought out a peculiar celebration by pointing his finger into his other hand, that was in a circular shape.
The move had the cricket world baffled.
But Channel 7 commentator James Brayshaw was able to reveal the likely reason behind it.
“Now, great people in the back have said after he took 4-10 within 17 balls in Sri Lanka in 2022 he was quoted as saying, ‘I had to put the digit on ice’,” Brayshaw said.
“So that was the celebration. He said ‘I just got him and I’m putting it back on ice’.”
Fellow commentator Greg Blewett was impressed.
“You have done some investigating, haven’t you, JB. I had no idea what that was all about, good work,” he said.
Brayshaw quickly paid tribute to the people behind the scenes for the great find.
“I would like to take credit, but I had nothing to do with it. I was handed it on a bit of paper. That was a good get from our team,” he said.
The wicket proved to be the beginning of the end for India as the Aussies claimed another six wickets to claim a famous victory.
Skipper Pat Cummins later spoke about Head’s celebration with a big grin.
“Sorry, yes, OK. I can explain that,” he said.
“It’s his finger’s so hot he’s got to put it in a cup of ice. That’s what it is.
“That’s normally the running joke. He was at the Gabba or somewhere and he got a wicket as well and he just goes straight to the fridge, grabs a bucket of ice, puts his finger in and just walks in front of (Nathan Lyon).
“Just like that. He thinks it’s very funny. So that’s what it would have been, nothing else.”
