Paramedics rushed to the cricket ground at about 4.45pm to treat the school student, who was wearing a helmet when he collapsed in the freak accident.

Mobile intensive care staff and an advanced life support unit treated the boy at the scene before rushing him to the Monash Medical Centre, where he remains on life support.

Teammates and witnesses were left shaken by the incident.

The teenager has played in representative cricket teams and is also a talented junior footballer.

It’s understood Cricket Victoria are aware of the incident and have been in contact with the boy’s family.

Ringwood and District Cricket Association chair Michael Finn said the league is doing whatever it can to assist.

“Currently our thoughts and prayers are with the family,” Finn said.

“We’re committed to providing whatever support we need to for the clubs and the officials that were involved.”
