“The matter was reported by team security to police, who are handling the matter.”

The incident is alleged to have happened around 11am Thursday morning, the day after Australia’s six-wicket win over England, with the suspect riding away.

The cricketers were reportedly escorted back to their hotel by police after giving their statements.

The players have been offered support, and are believed to be OK to continue playing in the tournament.

According to reports in the Times of India, police have already identified and arrested suspect Akil Khan, after bystanders took note of the alleged offender’s licence plate.

“Khan has prior criminal cases registered against him, and an investigation is on in the case said Sub-Inspector Nidhi Raghuvanshi.

Australia have spent large parts of this tournament in Indore, with Saturday night’s clash with South Africa their third game at Holkar Stadium.

News of the man’s arrest broke as Australia took to the field for their final-round match, with a spot in the semi-finals already secured.
