Mary Fowler is lightning-quick on the soccer pitch - but she’s got plenty of time for the the slowest of baby animals, as she showed during her trip to Perth.

Fowler is in WA as part of Manchester City’s squad for next week’s Perth International Football Cup, with the English giants joining Paris Saint-Germain, West Ham and Leicester City in a series of clashes at HBF Park next week.

And amid a hectic schedule that included leading the Matildas at the Paris Olympics earlier this month, Fowler took the chance to help out a tiny animal friend as she joined her City teammates on a walk around the Burswood’s Crown precinct.

Spotting a baby turtle on the pathway, Fowler gently lifted it into her hand and guided it back towards the Swan River for safety.

It appears the City squad was so enamoured with the creature that it even got a name, with Fowler’s teammate Kerstin Casparij writing on Instagram: “Shout out to Alfred”.

Fowler will be the star attraction when City open the quickfire tournament of exhibition matches against Leicester next Wednesday night, with Matildas teammate Alanna Kennedy also set to feature.
