Matildas veteran Katrina Gorry and her fiancée Clara Markstedt have welcomed their second child into the world.

Koby Peter David Gorry was born at 10.36am on Sunday, making them a family of four.

The name includes a nice tribute to Markstedt’s late father, Peter Markstedt, who died during last year’s World Cup.

Gorry and Markstedt, who herself is an international football star with Sweden, made a joint post on Wednesday morning to announce the news.

“Big sister is absolutely in love and our hearts are so full,” they wrote.

Markstedt’s Sweden teammate Linda Sembrant was one of hundreds of people wishing the happy family congratulations.

Markstedt gave birth to Koby, while Gorry gave birth to the couple’s firstborn, Harper, in 2021.

The Australian public has fallen in love with two-year-old Harper, who has become an unofficial mascot of the Matildas team.

Gorry has recently been recovering from a serious ankle injury suffered in the Women’s Super League for her club, West Ham.

It ended her WSL season and threatened to derail her Olympic hopes, but Matildas coach Tony Gustavsson included Gorry in the 18-player squad announced earlier this month as the 31-year-old approaches full fitness.

Speaking in April, Gorry said it had been difficult trying to be a mother while also an injured athlete.

“It’s tough being injured while being an athlete but I’ve found over the past two weeks that it’s tougher being an injured parent,” she said at the time.

“The disappointment in Harper’s voice when I can’t come to the playground with her or just do the simplest of things like wipe her when she’s finished on the toilet, chase her around the house or just let her climb all over me.

“She doesn’t understand why and her emotions have been so big because of it.

“It’s definitely taught me to be grateful for my health and to never take the small things for granted.”

Gorry said part of the reason she was compelled to share was to show the authentic side of her life away from the game.

“Sometimes Instagram can be just a highlight reel, so today I decided to go real and raw,” she continue.

“To all the parents out there doing it tough or sitting with guilt: you got this, these feelings are only temporary.

“A smile like (Harper’s) makes everything feel OK.”
