Australian captain and Chelsea superstar footballer Sam Kerr has appeared in a London court after being charged with racially aggravated harassment of a police officer.

The West Australian native left the Kingston Crown court, wearing a black coat and a white jumper, on Tuesday (local time) and refused to answer questions from reporters.

Kerr, 31, is charged with causing a police officer harassment, alarm or distress under Section 4A of the Public Order Act during an incident in Twickenham, southwest London, on January 30, 2023.

Reports came to light that during a dispute over a taxi fare, Kerr allegedly called one of two UK police officers present — PC Lovell — a “stupid white bastard” in Twickenham, south-west London on January 30, 2023.

Media reported that Kerr was sick inside the taxi prior to the incident — which occurred hours after she scored a hat-trick with her English club, Chelsea.

The all-time leading Australian international scorer pleaded not guilty at Kingston Crown Court in March 2024.

Kerr’s trial is now scheduled to take place on February 3.

The Matildas stalwart has not played for more than 12 months after suffering a serious knee injury last January.
