William Pike: Star jockey set for two-month absence following E-scooter crash
Star jockey William Pike will miss the rest of the Ascot carnival after injuring himself riding an E-scooter.
Pike suffered a broken wrist in a fall this week, ruling him out of Saturday’s ride on Western Empire in the Gold Rush and sidelining him for at least the next two months.
The champion hoop required surgery in the wake of the crash.

“He was riding a scooter on Monday evening around Perth just crossing a road. He was going incredibly slowly, and it was a fairly innocuous incident. He was going 10 to 15 kilometres an hour and landed wrong and he’s broken his wrist,” Verhagen said.
“Initially, without speaking to him, I was upset but even himself, he said ‘I wish I was doing something dumber, but I was actually being very sensible’.
“He probably takes more risks on the farm on a weekly basis than he did on that scooter.
“He’s in a full plaster and it’s a bitter pill to swallow.
“They operated on him overnight (Monday) and the wrist is in plaster.
“He’ll be out for somewhere between eight to 10 weeks.”
Victorian jockey Billy Egan has been booked as Pike’s replacement on Western Empire for Saturday.
