Injured Carlton forward Jack Silvagni and his wife Grace have welcomed the arrival of their first child, Charlie.

The couple made the joint announcement on Instagram on Monday of AFL grand final week for 2024.

“Welcoming Charlie Silvagni to the world. Grace you are amazing and our boy is so lucky to have you as his mum,” the post says.

It was quickly flooded with messages of support from around the AFL world.

Teammates Patrick Cripps and Elijah and Ollie Hollands were among the names to comment, as were former teammates Marc Murphy, Liam Jones, Zac Fisher and Daniel Gorringe.

Josh and Nick Daicos also left their congratulations, along with Bec Judd, Anthony Koutoufides and Natalie Docherty, plus dozens of fans.

“Congratulations to you both. He looks perfect. Great name. May the father-son legacy continue,” Jojo Nicoll said.

Charlie has been born into arguably the most famous family in the history of the Carlton Football Club.

His great grandfather Serge Silvagni won two premierships, two best and fairests and captained the Blues during a 239-game career between 1958 and 1971.

His grandfather Steve Silvagni is arguably the most decorated full back in the history of the game.

‘SOS’ — son of Serge — was named at full back in the AFL team of the century, won two premierships, was inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame, is a Legend in Carlton’s Hall of Fame, is a five-time All-Australian and won two best and fairests during his 312-game career for the Blues.

And his dad Jack has forged a good AFL career of his own, having played 116 games since his debut in 2016, but missed the entire 2024 season with a ruptured ACL that he suffered at training in January.

He signed a two-year contract extension with the Blues last September, just weeks before his previous contract expired, that ties him to the club until 2025.

Given how long it took to agree to terms, there was some speculation that the third-tall forward could find a home elsewhere.

Jack and Grace got married in Queensland last October.

Jack’s famous father Stephen rushed from Melbourne at the end of the AFL trade period, speeding through his final deal an hour before the deadline to rush straight to the airport.

The Silvagni wedding took place in Noosa, with the likes of teammates Jack Martin, Zac Williams and Zac Fisher involved in the celebrations.
