Australian gold medal chance Jack Robinson has suffered an injury scare just days out from his event at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The superstar surfer — who has been tuning up for the Olympics 15,000km away from Paris at the Teahupo’o in Tahiti — has had a heavy fall during training and sliced his foot open.

Robinson, 26, was quick to receive medical assistance on his bloodied foot while he was still in the water.

Teahupo’o is not only known world-wide for its very dangerous breaks, but also its razor-edged reef.

After being helped from the surf, an ambulance then took him to a medical facility for further treatment.

It is thought Robinson’s fall was purely an accident given the swell at Teahupo’o had eased ahead of his second training session.

Robinson, who hails from Margaret River in WA, is ranked No.3 in the world.

His ability to ride inside the tube of a wave has made him one of the favourites for the Olympics.

He qualified for the Olympics last year after a starring performance in Tahiti.

The men’s competition in Tahiti begins on Sunday morning.

Robinson is now in a race against time to be fit for the opening heats.

Ryan Callinan and Sally Fitzgibbons are on standby for the Aussie team in case of any late scratchings.

However, there is still some optimism he will be able to compete at his optimum level.

“Jack Robinson suffered a minor cut to his ankle during his second training session at Teahupo’o today,” an Australian surfing team spokesperson told the SMH.

“He was taken to the medical centre on site and treated by Surfing Australia’s chief medical officer Dr John Ward who said Robinson was still on track to compete.”
