Paris may be done but the show never stops in Hollywood as Los Angeles provided a glimpse of what the 2028 games could look like with the help of its biggest star.

Ahead of the closing ceremony, rumours were swirling that Tom Cruise would be on hand to help give a preview of what the LA Games could be.

After American singer H.E.R had performed the American national anthem she began playing the theme from Mission Impossible as the cameras turned to the roof where Cruise was smiling for the cameras.

He promptly jumped from the roof of Stade de France as he rappelled down and was swarmed by excited athletes who were quick to shake hands and grab selfies with the movie megastar.

But his work was not done as he grabbed the Olympic flag from LA mayor Karen Bass and Simone Biles and hopped on a motorbike which launched a pre-recorded sequence.

Cruise raced through the streets of Paris before boarding a cargo plane which he soon leapt out of landing near the Hollywood sign where he erected some extra O’s to form the Olympic rings to the tune of Red Hot Chilli Pepper’s By the Way.

The flag was then passed on to mountain biker Kate Courtney and went through the hands of several Olympic stars before ending up on Venice Beach where the Chilli Peppers were waiting.

They performed several hits before Billie Eilish sang her latest single Birds of a Feather before Snoop Dogg and Dr Dre Dropped It Like It’s Hot.

Having been somewhat the face of the Paris games turning heads at the equestrian and being on hand to launch the breakdancing it was somewhat disappointing that Snoop and the other US stars couldn’t put on a show at the stadium itself.

There’s no doubt the whole sequence was very LA but given the stunning live performances in the stadium, it didn’t quite resonate with the same feel.

Still, there’s no doubt once 2028 arrives there won’t be any shortage of star power to launch the next Olympic chapter.
