Two Australians have been attacked while visiting southern France for the Olympics.

7NEWS understands two Australian tourists were accosted while walking along Rue François Bazin towards Marseille’s main railway station, Saint-Charles, in the early hours of Monday morning.

Two men approached the pair before one of the Australians was punched in the stomach, local police say.

The attackers then stole their laptops, two cameras, a phone, a tablet, a drone, a Rolex watch as well as €200 in cash (A$330), their driver’s licenses and bank cards, totalling thousands of euros.

The pair filed a police report and an investigation is underway.

The attack occurred just 45 minutes after three Americans were targeted by three assailants, during which one was punched in the face.

French newspaper Le Journal du Dimanche reports all five tourists had been visiting France for the Olympic Games.

It comes a week after an Australian woman was allegedly gang raped in Paris sparking a major police investigation.

French media reported the alleged victim sought refuge in a kebab shop located on the Boulevard de Clinchy in the city’s 18th arrondissement following the incident.

Paramedics later transferred the 25-year-old woman to Bichat Hospital.

It’s understood she was planning to travel back to Australia but stayed in Paris to help the police with their investigation.

At the time, Australian chef de mission Anna Meares said team members had been briefed thoroughly on security and safety precautions.

“What information we’re passing onto our athletes is that security presence is really, really high and that’s in order for them to act as quickly as possible to keep them safe,” she said.

“We don’t yet have any feedback from our athletes that they have felt unsafe - we are encouraging them, if they go out of the village, not to go out on their own, not to wear (their) team uniform, just to wear plain clothes.”
