Australian fighter Jayson Tonkin is reportedly in a coma in a Thai hospital after a situation in a hotel room where another man has died.

Reports have emerged that Tonkin — a middleweight Muay Thai champion — was found next to ”the body of his dead relative” and is now in ICU in a hospital in Pattaya (a coastal city in Eastern Thailand).

Local police allege that “ketamine, cannabis and drug paraphernalia” were on the table of their fourth-floor room.

The men were found just after midnight on Wednesday after hotel staff “heard a commotion” coming from their room.

That commotion reportedly came from Tonkin who was in a “panic” and an alleged “state of severe intoxication”.

There was originally some confusion in local media about who had died, with some reports suggesting it was the 27-year-old Tonkin.

However, Daily Mail Australia confirmed that the man who died — who was shirtless at the time — was a “male relative” of Tonkin.

Local media said: “(Staff) went up to investigate and found the deceased’s friend panicking and shouting about why his friend was lying still ...

“Authorities performed first aid before transporting him to a nearby hospital.”

According to Daily Mail contacts, it is unclear “when or if” Tonkin will awake from his coma.

Local police said in a statement: “We will question (the dead man’s) friend further when he is conscious.”

Tonkin, whose nickname is ‘The Dingo’, hails from Manly in Sydney.

He was in Thailand ahead of his middleweight champion battle with WBC Muay Thai world No.1 Tengnueng Sitjaesairoong.

However, the fight was called off due to monsoonal rains.

Tonkin has previously spoken about mental health issues and drug use.

He once said on Instagram: ‘I’m not really allowed to live here now. (in Thailand). I get too lost in the madness.”

It is now possible that he could be charged with consumption or possession of a ‘schedule 2’ drug.

In Thailand, that category of drug carries a penalty of 1-5 years in jail.
