Australian Olympic gold medallist Cam McEvoy and wife Madeline have announced they are expecting their first child together.

The couple have enjoyed a mammoth 12 months, beginning with McEvoy swimming to an extraordinary 50m freestyle win at the Paris Olympics.

He then popped the question in December before the pair eloped seven weeks ago — and now they’ve revealed they were hiding a secret on their wedding day.

“Who would have thought 2025 would be better than 2024 with two becoming 3 in the McEvoy household as we soon welcome our baby boy!” McEvoy wrote.

“Going through the last few months with Maddi has been a rollercoaster of excitement, uncertainty and awe.

“Watching her go through the physical and emotional taxes of pregnancy so far, whilst carrying the added fear of how pregnancy may affect her own health with her heart has been nothing short of watching the full breadth of the human spirit to fight and give life in action.

“I’d run through a brick wall for Maddi and my son already.

“We are so excited for this next chapter, and to share in the one experience that all life on earth have in common — the creation of life.”

The Australian and wider swimming fraternity shared in the congratulations.

“Yess!!! So exciting. Congrats mate,” wrote Kyle Chalmers, who recently announced his partner Ingeborg is expecting their first child.

Swedish great Sarah Sjostrom, who is pregnant herself, said: “So happy for you guys. What a baby boom summer for the swimming world.”

Grant Hackett said: “Congratulations mate... your life and success continues to inspire us all.”

Olympic legend Emma McKeon wrote: “Congratulations to you both. What an exciting time.”

Shayna Jack said: “So excited for you both!! Can’t wait to meet the little boy. You’re going to both make incredible parents.”

McEvoy proposed at the end of last year.

“I’ve achieved some pretty big things this year but I think I just achieved my greatest one,” he said at the time.

“What a way to end 2024.”

They then announced their marriage in February with one photo — and one word in the caption: “Eloped.”

The McEvoys are known as one of the smartest pairings in the sport.

McEvoy studies physics in the hope of one day becoming an astronaut.

Madeline is a nurse who has completed her own share of post-graduate studies and is working on a PhD.

McEvoy secured his breakthrough Olympic gold last year on the back of a break from the pool after Tokyo in 2021, and he returned with a revolutionary training regime.

While focused on technical minutia in the pool, he does rock climbing and calisthenics among other activities to retain fitness.
