The blockbuster NFL clash between the Buffalo Bills and Detroit Lions has been marred by a horror injury.

The game came to standstill just before halftime when Detroit defender Khalil Dorsey suffered a serious leg injury.

During a Bills’ attacking play in the red zone Dorsey’s foot was stepped on by teammate Ezekiel Turner as they crossed paths resulting in him badly jarring his leg, possibly causing serious damage.

The entire Lions team, including coach Dan Campbell, rushed onto the field as Khalil received medial attention.

The game was halted for close to 10 minutes before Dorsey was taken off the field in a medical cart with an air cast around his leg.

Dorsey was rushed to hospital with reports he had twisted his left ankle severely.

Buffalo was ahead 21-14, as the NFC and AFC heavyweights faced off, after an action packed first half in which both sides rolled the dice on several bold plays that paid off.

Buffalo missed an opportunity to push their lead out beyond a touchdown after missing an easy field goal from the two-yard line after Dorsey’s injury.

Meanwhile, Patrick Mahomes threw for a pair of touchdowns before hurting his ankle in Kansas City Chiefs’ win over Cleveland Browns and Miami receiver Grant DuBose was hospitalised following a horror head knock

Mahomes completed 19 of 38 passes for 159 yards but had to be replaced by veteran signal-caller Carson Wentz after getting caught up under Cleveland defensive tackle Dalvin Tomlinson with 7:57 minutes left in the game.

Kansas City (13-1) had already built its 21-7 lead at the time, and Chiefs coach Andy Reid said afterward that he vetoed the star quarterback’s request to return to the game.

Reid, however, didn’t think the injury was serious.

“It’s not broken, that’s what I can tell you,” Reid said after the game.

“He’ll literally be day-to-day as we go forward. I don’t know how much swelling he has or any of that.”

Browns star running back Nick Chubb was also a casualty in a disappointing day, with his team suffering their fifth loss in six games, breaking his foot in the third quarter.

Chubb was making his return this season from a devastating knee injury, but left Huntington Bank Field in a walking boot and on crutches.

DuBose was hospitalised after being taken off the field on a stretcher following a helmet-to-helmet hit against the Houston Texans.

“There’s been some positive feedback related to some head and neck imaging,” coach Mike McDaniel said.

“He will stay here overnight, and we’ll find out more by (Monday.)“

DuBose tried to make a catch in the third quarter, but was hit by rookie Calen Bullock before his head violently hit the turf.

Bullock was given a flag for unnecessary roughness for hitting a defenseless receiver on the play.

DuBose remained on the field for more than 10 minutes as he was tended to by emergency medical personnel.

His jersey was cut off him and a neck brace was put on him and he was eventually put on a spine board where his arms and legs were strapped down and he was taken off the field.
