An air cast was applied quickly and players from both teams were around the cart before it was driven away and taken to hospital.

Early reports suggested he may have dislocated his knee, meaning the injury could be season-ending, dealing a bitter blow to the struggling Miami franchise.

He clapped and waved at the fans as he was driven off, receiving an ovation after the stadium had been hushed for several minutes following the play.

Fans became convinced Hill was celebrating what could be his final game in Dolphins colours.

The Dolphins said Hill was admitted to hospital, “for imaging, evaluation and observation” of the knee injury.

Miami were 0–3 entering the clash with New York after missing the playoffs last season.

The Dolphins star had taken six catches for 67 yards before he was injured.

Hill is a five-time All-NFL selection but has had a controversial career littered with off-field incidents.

He won the Super Bowl with Kansas City in 2019.

Hill has 11,363 receiving yards since entering the NFL in 2017, the most in the league over that span.

He also has 819 catches, fourth most in the league since 2017 behind only Davante Adams (886), Travis Kelce (880) and Stefon Diggs (824).

Hill’s 83 touchdown catches are third most in the NFL since 2017.
