Disgraced Australian swim coach Richard ‘Dick’ Caine has died weeks after he escaped jail time for raping and sexually assaulting girls in the 1970s and 80s.

Caine, who had been in palliative care with cancer, died on Tuesday aged 71, according to The Daily Telegraph.

He was convicted over 39 charges last month in a NSW court but due to his illness was not sent to prison.
