Australia’s greatest motorsport event is ready to kick into gear as the V8 Supercar travelling roadshow rolls into town for the 2024 Bathurst 1000.

The race that has captivated a nation of fans for over half a century is revving up in anticipation of the 64th running and the annual clash between General Motors (Holden) and Ford.

Frantic high-speed action on the track is always met head-on by the furious support from red and blue fans on the hills surrounding the famous street track that snakes up and down Mount Panorama in picturesque Bathurst.

Seven Network director of sport Chris Jones said: “As Australia’s Home of sport, we’re committed to delivering the best coverage, from every thrilling lap to the unforgettable moments that make Bathurst legendary.

“With the newly launched 7plus Sport, we’re not only bringing this historic race to more screens than ever but also attracting new audiences who can now experience the excitement of Bathurst anytime, anywhere.”

Seven’s 2024 Bathurst coverage on Friday will include Supercars practice and qualifying. Saturday’s coverage from Mount Panorama starts at 10am AEDT on Channel 7, 7mate and 7plus, and will include Supercars practice and the Top 10 Shootout.

On Sunday, Seven’s broadcast kicks off with the Supercars warm-up at 7.30am AEDT, before the event everyone has been waiting for — the Repco Bathurst 1000 — roars onto screens from 10.30am AEDT.

7plus Sport features a dedicated motorsport hub for live and on-demand streaming of the Repco Bathurst 1000, along with race day highlights, Bathurst Throwbacks and archive footage, FAST channels, bonus content and exclusive features.

Where and when can I watch the Bathurst 1000 coverage?

Channel 7’s coverage begins at 10am (AEDT) on Friday and continues daily until the podium celebration and post-race interview program on Sunday afternoon.

V8 Supercar fans will be able to access the event from all angles via the Channel 7 main channel plus 7mate and 7plus Sport for all the unmissable moments.

Seven’s motorsport executive producer Angela Rampal said: “Following a massive month of sport on Seven and 7plus Sport, we cannot wait to present the Bathurst 1000, which is without a doubt the biggest weekend on the Australian motorsport calendar.

“This year’s Supercars Championship is shaping up to be one of the most open and exciting of recent times, which makes choosing a winner for this year’s Bathurst 1000 near impossible. Will it be current leader Will Brown taking out his first-ever Bathurst title, or will we see his close competitor Chaz Mostert claim his third win on the mountain?

“Once again, Seven has lined up an incredible broadcast team to lead viewers through 26 hours of live and free coverage, including hosts Mark Beretta and Mel McLaughlin, alongside current driver Jack Perkins as he juggles his time behind the wheel and the ‘mic for our coverage,” she said.

What will the weather be like for the Bathurst 1000?

The weather for the Bathurst 1000 on Sunday is predicted to be perfect for racing and the race is likely to proceed without the threat of any dreaded rain squalls.

Bathurst is set for a sunny Sunday, with tops around 24 degrees. Winds 19 km/h and only 47 per cent humidity should give the drivers every chance to be at the optimum during the gruelling race.

Bathurst 1000 — Safety first for over 200,000 fans

Police are urging motorists heading to this weekend’s race meeting at Bathurst’s iconic Mount Panorama Motor Racing Circuit, to plan ahead and drive safely.

With more than 200,000 visitors expected at the Bathurst 1000, a high-visibility policing operation will be running involving general duties and specialist police targeting speeding, drink and drug driving, mobile phone use and seat-belt offences.

“Road safety is everyone’s responsibility and motorists should avoid putting themselves and other road users at risk,” Assistant Commissioner Andrew Holland said.

“Dangerous or irresponsible behaviour by drivers will not be tolerated and people should do everything they can to ensure the safety of themselves and those around them.

“There will be thousands of extra vehicles on the road to Bathurst and – as it coincides with the end of the NSW school holidays – I urge extra caution on Western roads.”
