Alex de Minaur debuts new on-court look and gets immediate tick of approval from fiancée Katie Boulter

Aussie tennis star Alex de Minaur is debuting a new look as he ramps up his preparation for the Miami Open.

Seeded fifth, de Minaur will face either Stefanos Tsitsipas or qualifier Arthur Fery on Saturday.

But there’s every chance fans might have a double take when he first steps out of court.

The 27-year-old has been training with a headband as opposed to a cap that he has worn for basically the entirety of his career.

“Vintage vibes in Miami. Switched things up… headband or nah?” He wrote on social media, along with three pictures of himself training.

Fans were overwhelming in their support of the new look, with some surprised at how different he looks.

“Never known a headband to change an appearance so much, barely recognised him for a moment,” one said.

“This is so much better, he needs to keep this look, the cap made him look like a ballboy,” another said.

“Embrace the headband demon, it’s cooler,” another said.

“The new haircut and headband look good and gives him a whole different look and vibe,” another added.

But it was the comment from his fiancée Katie Boulter that took the take.

“Majority shareholder approval granted. You may proceed,” she wrote.

It was a cheeky nod to de Minaur’s on-court interview with Jim Courier at this year’s Australian Open.

The tennis great turned commentator was asking about the upcoming wedding and just how involved de Minaur was in the planning.

The Aussie said it was a “50-50 relationship” before Courier replied with a zinger.

“You’ve not been married. You don’t know. You’re about to become a 49 per cent shareholder of a really great company,” he quipped.

It became an ongoing joke throughout the tournament with Boulter happily referring to herself as the 51 per cent shareholder and de Minaur even signing the camera “49%” after one of his victories.

The couple, who have now been together for six years, announced their engagement at the end of 2024 with the wedding planned for later this year.

De Minuar has had an up-and-down start to the season.

He cruised through to the quarter-finals at Melbourne Park before suffering a heavy defeat to eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz.

De Minaur then won the Rotterdam Open before suffering early exits in Mexico and Indian Wells.

Boulter, meanwhile, defeated Jessica Bouzas Maneiro in her first-round match in Miami.

She will now face 17th seed Clara Tauson in the second round on Friday.
