The Aussies are within reach of a series-deciding victory over South Africa.

The Grade Cricketer’s Ian Higgins has been rushed to hospital in South Africa following a “serious medical emergency”.

Higgins and his co-host Sam Perry are on the ground in Cape Town for Australia’s series-deciding Test against South Africa, and have been recording daily reviews after each day’s play at Newlands.

But fans of the show woke up on Friday morning (AEDT) to nothing in their podcast feeds, with TGC’s Instagram account soon explaining what happened.

“No daily review today following a serious medical emergency involving Higgos (he’s OK),” the post reads.

“He suffered a severe bout of viral gastroenteritis this afternoon, requiring paramedic assistance, an ambulance transfer from Newlands and hospital treatment.

“Thankfully, he’s doing much better and was discharged tonight.

“A huge thank you to the paramedics, Newlands medical team and everyone at Kingsway Hospital for their tremendous skill and care.

“We’ll be back tomorrow.”

The Grade Cricketer is currently Australia’s No.1-ranked sports podcast on Spotify and the duo boast 361,000 subscribers on YouTube.

They have travelled all across the globe covering Australian cricket and performing live comedy shows, including in India, England and all parts of Australia.

They released their third book, The Grade Cricketer: Alphas, Champs and Chopkings, earlier this year.

The pair had been covering what is a gripping Test match in Cape Town, with Australia now in the box seat to secure a historic 2-1 series victory with two days left to play.

South Africa lead by just 40 runs in the second innings with just six wickets left in hand after Aussie spinner Nathan Lyon bowled Proteas captain Temba Bavuma on the stroke of stumps.

Earlier, Josh Inglis brought up his second Test century on return to the team for the first time in over 12 months before Mitchell Starc did the early damage with the ball, taking two wickets.
