An earthquake measuring 6.3 magnitude has struck Afghanistan’s Hindu Kush region.

The epicentre of the earthquake, which hit at a depth of 28km early on Monday, was 22.5km from Khulm, which has a population of nearly 65,000, the US Geological Survey said.

A magnitude 6.0 earthquake on August 31, 2025, in eastern Afghanistan near the Pakistan border killed more than 2200 people.

On October 7, 2023, a magnitude 6.3 followed by strong aftershocks, left at least 4000 people dead, according to the Taliban government.
