A second man has been arrested over the alleged murder of a young woman found stabbed to death on a UK street.

The body of Alisha Samuels, 26, was found in Manchester on Thursday after police were called to Dorking Avenue in Newton Heath after 2am amid reports from residents of “screaming and shouting” in the area.

Witnesses reported seeing a vehicle ram into a police van and a 25-year-old man being taken out of the car and placed into police custody.

That man was arrested on suspicion of murder but it is understood he is no longer being viewed by law enforcement as a suspect and has since been released.

A second man, aged 26, from Merseyside has now been arrested on suspicion of murder while a 61-year-old man and a woman, aged 38, have also been arrested in relation to allegations of helping an offender.

“As our investigation into the tragic death of Alisha Samuels continues, officers from our specialist operations teams have now made another arrest on suspicion of murder,” Manchester Police said in a statement.

“A man, aged 26, was arrested in Merseyside in connection with this incident and he remains in custody for questioning.”

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector Justin Bryant added: “We are still seeking information for Alisha’s heartbreaking death, and a number of our teams are dedicated to locate those we believe were involved.

“We have another man in custody, but our investigation is not over. We are working tirelessly to establish the full circumstances of this attack, and to provide Alisha’s family with some answers.

“My thoughts remain with them as they navigate this tremendous loss.”

The Sun reported that witnesses on Monday laying flowers at the scene of the alleged murder included a woman named Donna, whose daughter attended Alisha’s school.

“It’s such tragic news,” said Donna.

“I’ve got a lot of happy memories of Alisha and my daughter chatting at our house.

“She had a smile that would light up every room.”
