A young tourist has died after she fell to her death on a cliff swing at an adventure park in Sichuan province, China on May 3.

Video captured the smiling 16-year-old, identified only as Ms Liu, waiting patiently as staff harnessed her up for the scenic rope swing at Maliuyan Adventure Park in Huaying, Sichuan.

Ms Liu was seen holding a blue flag across her shoulders as she inched towards the edge.

According to local media, moments before the fatal jump, Ms Liu was heard yelling that her safety rope wasn’t “tight enough”.

Horrific footage showed the moment Ms Liu leapt off the platform before the safety rope came loose, causing her to fall. Her friends can be heard screaming before the video abruptly stops.

Ms Liu dropped 168 metres and slammed into the rocks below. She sustained severe injuries and was immediately transported to hospital but tragically died on the way.

Local authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, which they have classified as a production safety responsibility accident.

The park announced it will remain shut between May 4 and May 10.

This specific cliff swing was only opened barely two months ago by Chongqing Adventure Camp. The entry fee is around $80, with an additional $3 paid separately.

In March, a similar tragedy unfolded when a young mother fell to her death off an amusement park slide in Colombia.

Shocking footage showed the final moments before Yuris Cristel Camila Garcia Manrique, 28, was pushed to her death down a massive slide at the popular tourist site, Entre Flores in Chinacota, Colombia.

The disturbing video showed Ms Manrique wearing a helmet and holding onto a tyre at the top of the slide while a worker reassures her that the ride is safe.

“Will anyone be waiting for me?”, Ms Manrique asks the worker.

He tells her there is a swimming pool at the bottom that “always catches people”.

“Don’t be scared”, Ms Manrique is told before she is pushed down the drop.

Ms Manrique is seen speeding down the steep slide before disappearing around the bend. Seconds later, screams can be heard from the bottom as a staff member asks, “Did she fall off?”

The young mum was reportedly thrown off the ride at the bend and fell around four and a half metres to the ground below.

According to local media, Ms Manrique suffered a traumatic brain injury, as well as multiple injuries to her abdomen and chest.

She was immediately rushed to hospital but tragically died on the way.
