Brooklyn meat cleaver slashings: Man shot dead, four children rushed to hospital after stabbing attacks
A man has been shot dead in New York after going on a slashing rampage with a meat cleaver, with four children seriously injured and rushed to hospital.
Police were called on Sunday morning (local time) after receiving a call reporting an assault in progress.
“The 11-year-old caller stated that she and her siblings had been stabbed by her uncle,” NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said.

On arrival, police were let into a residence by an uninjured child, then hearing screams from behind another closed door.
Officers kicked down the door, finding a man “holding a large meat cleaver covered in blood,” MS Tisch said.
“And they could see blood on the floor and the walls of the home,” Ms Tisch said.
Police ordered the man to drop his weapon multiple times, however he refused, instead advancing towards officers.
“Two officers discharged their firearms, firing seven total rounds between them and striking the subject, ending the threat,” Ms Tisch said.
After the suspect was shot, police found four injured children aged eight, 11, 13 and 16.
They are believed to be related to the suspect, with investigations into the exact relationship ongoing.
The children, along with the suspect were raced to hospital.
The suspect died from gun shot injuries, while the child victims remain in a serious condition.
Police say the believe the children will survive.
