A talented dancer was strangled to death by her boyfriend when a “sex game went wrong” during a drugs session, an inquest heard.

And a coroner said the tragic outcome “should send a strong deterrent message” to couples of the dangers of ‘this type of sexual activity’.

Georgia May Brooke, 26, and Luke Cannon, 31, had taken cocaine and the party drug GHB before having intercourse on February 3, 2022.

But personal trainer and gym owner Mr Cannon choked Ms Brooke until she went into cardiac arrest and she died shortly after in hospital, her inquest at Bradford Coroner’s Court was told.

Mr Cannon took his own life hours later, having phoned a friend to say: “Tell her mum I’m going to be with her.”

Yesterday’s inquest heard that when paramedics arrived at Mr Cannon’s home in Bradford following his 999 call they found 5ft tall Ms Brooke naked on his bed and without a pulse.

Despite CPR and adrenaline injections, she was pronounced dead at 12.34am at Bradford Royal Infirmary.

Mr Cannon fled the hospital before officers arrived, telling a senior registrar: “Her mum is going to kill me, I should have died instead.”

He took his own life in a woods near the hospital with his body being found a few hours later.

Detective Sergeant Phil Hardwick said investigations showed sex between the couple had been consensual, adding: “There are text messages consistent with Georgia having an interest in choking in a sexual point of view.”

DS Hardwick also said internet searches by Ms Brooke, who lived in Ossett in West Yorkshire, included: “Why do I like being choked psychology?”

Friends claimed the couple would create home-made pornography.

One of her pals told the inquest she and Mr Cannon had a “sex and drug-fuelled relationship” and she liked to be treated roughly and choked – with him being “really into it”.

Pathologist Dr Christopher Johnson found Ms Brooke’s cause of death was manual strangulation but there were also “potentially fatal” levels of GHB in her system, alongside cocaine and alcohol.

Coroner Martin Fleming recorded a verdict of “unlawful killing” and said: “She was consensual to the practices she adopted with Luke. There is no evidence he intended to kill Georgia, he was primarily motivated by sexual gratification.’”

Mr Fleming said it was a “sex game gone wrong” and added: ‘This type of sexual activity is dangerous and is reckless.

“This should send a strong deterrent message to those who engage in such sexual practices. There is no margin for error, particularly when using drugs.”

Ms Brooke’s mother Samantha Beaumont told the inquest her daughter was known as “Princess Georgia” and studied dance at Millennium Performing Arts in London.

She added: “Dancing was her life. We are devastated beyond belief.”

Mr Cannon’s inquest is due today.
