Officials are investigating the death of a 60-year-old office worker whose body who was found dead at her desk by a colleague four days after she clocked in.

According to local media, Denise Prudhomme scanned into the Wells Fargo office building, on the 1100 block of West Washington Street in Tempe, Arizona, at 7am on Friday, August 16, local time.

A Wells Fargo employee, who spoke anonymously to 12News, said a colleague found Ms Prudhomme dead in her cubicle while walking around the building.

Tempe police reportedly pronounced the 60-year-old woman dead at 4.55pm local time.

The employee who spoke to 12News said that multiple people complained of a foul odour in the building but assumed it was due to faulty plumbing.

Another employee said the situation was “really heartbreaking” and made them feel “uneasy”.

“I’m thinking, ‘What if I were just sitting there? No one would check on me?’’,” the employee told 12News.

“To hear she’s been sitting at the desk like that would make me feel sick … and nobody did anything. That’s how she spent her last moments.”

Outlets have reported Ms Prudhomme’s cubicle was located on the third floor of the Wells Fargo office and away from the main aisle of desks, NBC reports.

In a statement to the outlet, a Wells Fargo spokesperson said the company was “deeply saddened by the tragic loss”.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with their family and loved ones during this difficult time. Counsellors, through our employee assistance consulting service, are available to support our employees.”

It said that Wells Fargo is “committed to the safety and wellness of our workforce” and that it is “reviewing our own internal procedures after this event.”

“We are fully cooperating with the Tempe police department in their investigation and will direct all further questions to them.”

While an initial police investigation did not point to foul play, the Tempe police criminal investigation bureau is currently working with the Maricopa County medical examiner to determine Prudhomme’s cause of death.

The investigation continues.
