He was so drunk that he was stumbling around naked in a five-star resort in the early morning — before onlookers realised it was their pilot about to fly them home just hours later.

The boozed up captain had stripped off after a marathon drinking session and was seen in a “paralytic” state about 2.30am wandering nude in the grounds of the $3130-a-week Melia Dunas Beach Resort and Spa in Cape Verde.

The veteran EasyJet pilot had flown holidaymakers in from the UK on August 4 and was due to fly out of the West African archipelago with a plane load of travellers on August 6.

But passengers realised who he was — and alerted the airline.

“EasyJet managers couldn’t believe what they were being told but took immediate action after complaints were raised at the highest level,” a source at the airline told The Sun.

“Anyone who saw the pilot cavorting naked in the early hours on the day before a flight would not dream of getting on a plane with him at the controls.

“We all make mistakes but the level of stupidity on display here by a veteran captain beggars belief.

“The pilot did not have a stitch on and reeked of alcohol.

“He was so drunk that you wouldn’t have put him in charge of a toy aeroplane, never mind the real thing with hundreds of passengers.”

Witnesses told how at one point the sozzled pilot toddled off naked towards a closed bar area before veering to the gym and spa.

“This was breathtakingly unprofessional behaviour from the pilot,” the source said.

“It was the height of stupidity. His career with EasyJet is doomed.”

EasyJet said at the weekend that the captain remained “stood down” pending an ongoing investigation.
