A former TV anchor has been charged with murder after her mother was allegedly stabbed to death.

Angelynn “Angie” Mock, 47, a former Fox TV anchor, was arrested on Friday in Wichita, in the US state of Kansas, after police found her 80-year-old mother, Anita Avers, with multiple stab wounds.

Emergency services were called to the home about 8am, where they found Avers in a bed with severe injuries, and Mock standing outside the property.

Neighbour Alyssa Castro told local outlet KAKE that Mock, covered in blood, had approached her and her boyfriend for help.

“There was a woman who approached our vehicle with like blood, like her hands were filled, her body was filled with blood, asking to call 911,” Castro said.

“I asked her if she was OK, and she was pretty shooken (sic) up and she seemed scared, and she just ran off.”

Avers ’s Facebook profile photo was of Mock, showing her reporting in the field.

According to Mock’s LinkedIn profile, she worked in broadcast journalism from 2002 to 2015, including four years as an anchor for Fox 2.

She later moved into sales and consulting roles.

Tributes have since poured in for Avers, a marriage and family therapist.

One former client said she was “beyond devastated”.

“Anita was mine and Andrew’s premarital counselor. She had done premarital counseling for years and years,” the woman wrote online.

“My heart shattered and I fell to the bathroom floor. I didn’t leave it for four hours.”

Authorities have not revealed a possible motive for the alleged killing.
