Uganda: Horror as four toddlers stabbed to death while at Ggaba daycare, police arrest suspect

A community has been left devastated after a machete-wielding man allegedly killed four children.

Four toddlers have been stabbed to death in a brutal attack at a daycare centre.

Ugandan police said the horrific incident occurred at Ggaba Early Childhood Development Program, a daycare centre part of Ggaba Parish, located in Kampala.

Police said they received a distress call at about 11am on April 2, with the caller reporting that an individual was attacking children.

The four children who lost their lives in the attack were between two and three-years -old.

Police are yet to disclose any further details about the incident, but local media said the children were attacked with a machete.

Okello Christopher Onyum, 39, has been identified as the suspect and was arrested at the scene.

“The suspect is currently under interrogation as investigations continue to establish his motive, background, and any other relevant circumstances surrounding this heinous crime,” the Uganda police force said.

Police have released the names and genders of the children who died.

“Preliminary findings confirm the tragic loss of four minors during the incident,” police said.

The identities are: Eteku Gideon, a two-year-old male; Kaise Alungat, a two-year-old female; Ignatius Sserwange, a three-year-old male; and Ryan Odeke, a two-year-old male.

“All victims were pupils of the same daycare facility,” police said.

“The Uganda Police Force extends its deepest condolences to the affected families and assures the public that all efforts are underway to ensure a thorough investigation and justice for the victims. Further updates will be provided as more details emerge.”
