Prince Harry and his wife on Thursday carried out their first joint engagement since their surprise move back to the UK in August, with Meghan telling wellwishers: “It’s great to be back.”

Harry, 42 and Meghan, 45 — who left the UK and quit royal duties in 2020 amid a bitter royal family feud — were greeted with cheers as they arrived in the central English city of Nottingham, where they visited three youth charities.

The couple then stopped to chat with wellwishers as well as pose for selfies and accept gifts.

Meghan, dressed in a long burgundy winter coat and wearing her hair in a ponytail, kissed a woman on the cheek as she was presented with a gift. Harry, in a dark suit and open-necked white shirt, bent down to speak to one little boy and told the gathered crowd it was “very nice” to see everyone.

On their final stop at youth charity Epic Partners, the pair decorated birthday cupcakes and played pool.

The Duchess carefully took to the baking task in the usual manner of her Netflix cooking show With Love, Meghan, sharing tips with onlookers.

The Duke ,however, licked his hand as he repeatedly tried to remove the glaze from his fingers.

The quasi-royal visit potentially puts the pair at odds with Buckingham Palace over their status.

In a letter last month, King Charles confirmed the couple’s position was “akin to private citizens” with charitable interests in the UK, rather than public figures. He said his son and daughter-in-law should not be addressed as his and her royal highness.

The last time the pair appeared together at a public event in the UK was when they attended his grandmother Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral at Westminister Abbey in September 2022.
