US President announces ceasefire deal between Israel and Iran.

US President Donald Trump has announced that Israel and Iran have agreed to a “complete and total” ceasefire, which is expected to begin early Tuesday morning (local time) once both nations have completed their final missions.

Mr Trump stated in a post on Truth Social that the ceasefire will last for 12 hours, and believes the “12-day war” will then be “considered ended”.

“Officially, Iran will start the CEASEFIRE and, upon the 12th Hour, Israel will start the CEASEFIRE and, upon the 24th Hour, an Official END to THE 12 DAY WAR will be saluted by the World.”

Mr Trump laid down the rules of the ceasefire, in which all sides will remain “peaceful and respectful”.

“On the assumption that everything works as it should, which it will, I would like to congratulate both Countries, Israel and Iran, on having the Stamina, Courage, and Intelligence to end, what should be called, ‘THE 12 DAY WAR’.”

“This is a War that could have gone on for years, and destroyed the entire Middle East, but it didn’t, and never will! God bless Israel, God bless Iran, God bless the Middle East, God bless the United States of America, and GOD BLESS THE WORLD!”

Mr Trump’s announcement comes after Iran’s military said it had carried out a “devastating and powerful” missile attack on the Al-Udeid US air base in Qatar.

Iran fired a combination of short-range and medium-range missiles, of which 13 were intercepted and one was set free as it was travelling in a non-threatening direction.

There have been conflicting reports on the number of missiles launched; however, in the US President’s post on Truth Social, where he dismissed the attack as a “very weak response”, he said 14 weapons were fired at the military base.

Mr Trump thanked Iran for providing notice before shooting the missiles, which he said made it possible for no lives to be lost.

Dramatic vision has since emerged on social media showing the missiles being intercepted above Qatar.

Details have begun to emerge on how the deal was made

A senior White House official told Reuters that Qatar’s Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammad bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, secured Tehran’s agreement during a call with Iranian officials.

The phone call reportedly came after Mr Trump told Qatar’s emir that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu agreed to the deal and asked for Doha’s help in persuading Tehran to come to the table.

Israel reportedly agreed to the deal so long as Iran did not launch any further attacks.
