Donald Trump is furious, lashing out against both countries after he brokered a ceasefire deal between Iran and Israel, only for it to be broken after a few hours.

US President Donald Trump has received a royal welcome as he arrived in the Netherlands to attend the NATO summit amid ongoing chaos in the Middle East.

Mr Trump joined world leaders and the Dutch Royal Family at Huis ten Bosch Palace, which is where the US President will stay during his visit to The Hague.

The palace is one of three official residences of the King of the Netherlands.

The US President was all smiles as he arrived and even posed for photos outside the palace alongside King Willem-Alexander, Queen Maxima and other NATO leaders.

Only hours earlier, Mr Trump’s mounting frustration was on full display as he left the White House, vocalising his strong disapproval of Israel and Iran’s violation of the ceasefire agreement.

“We basically have two countries that have been fighting so long and so hard that they don’t know what the f*** they’re doing.”

Mr Trump declared on social media on Monday (local time) that Israel and Iran had agreed to a ceasefire, which would end the 12-day war.

During his Air Force One flight to The Hague, the US President was asked by a reporter if he would like to see a possible regime change in Iran.

“Regime change takes chaos and ideally we don’t want to see so much chaos,” Mr Trump responded.

He added that he would like to see “everything calm down as quickly as possible.”

This comes two days after the US President posted on Truth Social, “if the current Iranian Regime is unable to MAKE IRAN GREAT AGAIN, why wouldn’t there be a Regime change??? MIGA!!!””

The two-day summit in the Netherlands is intended to signal to Russian President Vladimir Putin that NATO is united and determined to expand and upgrade its defences to deter any attack from Russia.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte says he has no doubt Mr Trump is committed to the alliance’s Article 5 mutual defence clause after remarks by the US President on his way to a meeting of the military alliance.

Speaking to reporters en route to the summit, Mr Trump said there were “numerous” definitions of Article 5 of the Washington Treaty, which declares that an attack against one NATO member shall be considered an attack against all of them.

“I’m committed to saving lives. I’m committed to life and safety. And I’m going to give you an exact definition when I get there,” Mr Trump said.

Mr Rutte told reporters that he has no doubt the US is totally committed to NATO.

The summit and its final statement will be focused on heeding Mr Trump’s call to spend five per cent of GDP on defence - a significant jump from the current two per cent goal.

It is to be achieved both by spending more on military items and by including broader security-related spending in the new target.

The Kremlin accused NATO of being on a path of rampant militarisation and portraying Russia as a “fiend of hell” to justify its big increase in military spending.

Russia has cited its neighbour’s desire to join the US-led transatlantic military alliance as one of the reasons why it invaded Ukraine in 2022.

NATO was founded by 12 countries in 1949 to resist the threat from the communist Soviet Union.

Russia denies any plan to attack the alliance, which now boasts 32 members, but Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said it was “largely a wasted effort” to assure the grouping of this because it was determined to demonise Russia.

“It is an alliance created for confrontation ... It is not an instrument of peace and stability,” he said.
