Lisbon tram crash: Australian injured after derailment which killed 15 people in Portugal

An Australian is receiving consular assistance after suffering minor injuries in a deadly tram crash in Lisbon, Portugal.
At least 15 people were killed when the funicular derailed in the picturesque city, with another 18 injured, according to local authorities.
“Australian officials are making urgent enquiries following the tragic overnight crash of a cable railway vehicle in Lisbon, Portugal,” a Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade spokesperson told NewsWire

“The Australian government offers its deepest sympathies to those affected.
“We are not aware of any Australians who have been killed or seriously injured.
“We are providing consular assistance to one individual.”
NewsWire understands the person’s injuries are not serious.
Lisbon’s mayor told reporters Wednesday was “a tragic day for our city”, adding that the Portuguese capital “is in mourning”.
