He told authorities that he had delivered food to a woman an hour before his arrival at Baptist Health South Miami Hospital.
While there, he spoke with the woman and “took a liking to her“, the outlet reported.
Wanting to see her again and get her phone number, the Uber Eats driver returned to the address around 3.25am.
As he was returning to his car after being unsuccessful, the woman’s boyfriend Khuslen Saruultuya pulled up.
Investigators said Mr Saruultuya, 33, ordered the delivery driver to “lie on the ground” as he threatened him with a gun.
“The victim complied and laid flat on the ground (and Mr Saruultuya) fired one round, which grazed the victim on his right buttock,” the official report states.
“While the victim remained on the ground, (Mr Saruultuya) struck him on the back of the head with the buttstock of the handgun, causing a two-inch open wound.”
Afterwards, the boyfriend pointed the gun to the delivery man’s head and said, “I am going to kill you”.
The girlfriend witnessed the incident and apparently pleaded, “Babe, please stop” and attempted to hold her boyfriend back while he tried chasing the delivery driver, who managed to escape and get himself to hospital.
Mr Saruultuya was quickly identified and taken into custody.
WSVN reported that a search of his home allegedly found cocaine, MDMA, ketamine, marijuana, psilocybin mushrooms, hundreds of prescription pills, and a stash of cash.
Mr Saruultuya is facing charges of attempted murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and several drug trafficking charges.
During his court appearance, the Judge denied the 33-year-old’s bond, NBC Miami reported.
They reported that Mr Saruultuya was also involved in a 2022 altercation with a man who checked out his girlfriend while at the gym, which ended in the other man’s arrest.
An Uber spokesperson told Local10 the allegations were “concerning” and that the platform was “continuing to investigate”.
