A fugitive wanted over a fatal shooting in Tennessee was arrested when he fell through the ceiling of the Memphis home where he was hiding, US federal authorities said.

Deario Wilkerson, 20, was not injured in the fall and was taken into custody on Monday.

He was wanted on charges of first-degree murder and reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon over with the killing of Troy Cunningham in Memphis on April 2, the US Marshals Service said.

An agency task force had tracked Wilkerson to the home and surrounded it as he tried to hide in the attic, it said.

Wilkerson was one of three suspects identified in Cunningham’s killing.

The Shelby County District Attorney’s Office said the suspects stole Cunningham’s gun and fired it at him — fatally shooting him in the back of his head as he tried to run away.

The two other suspects have already been arrested and charged, the prosecutor’s office said.

An arrest warrant for Wilkerson was issued in May.

Courts records do not yet list a lawyer for Wilkerson.
