Nancy, the 84-year-old mother of US TV star Savannah Guthrie, remains missing after two weeks, with investigators conducting nighttime raids near her Reston, Virginia home.

Fears are mounting for the mother of Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, who remains missing more than six weeks after she was allegedly abducted from her Arizona home.

Nancy Guthrie, 84, was last seen at her Catalina Foothills residence on January 31, with authorities launching a search the following day.

The case has now drawn fresh scrutiny, with a former FBI agent criticising local law enforcement as pressure builds on the Pima Country Sheriff Chris Nanos.

Speaking on Brian Entin Investigates, retired agent Maureen O’Connell said she was uncertain about the sheriff’s leadership, pointing to reports he had a low public approval rating before the case.

“I really hate being critical of my fellow law enforcement officers, but I just don’t know what to think about this guy,” she said.

A recall effort against Sheriff Nanos was launched on March 12, with more than 120,000 signatures needed to remove him from office.

Despite the push, O’Connell said a leadership change would not impact the investigation adding: “It’s not like he’s holding the whole thing together.”

It comes after police made a big call on Nancy Guthrie’s alleged abductor.

“Could strike again”, the force said.

However, they would not go further nor question a possible motive.

The update comes just over a week after Savannah returned to the Today show studio for a visit on March 5 for the first time since her mother’s disappearance.

Host Jenna Bush Hager said on the programme: “Savannah has come back to her home here at 30 Rock and Studio 1A.

“We got to see her this morning, and in her perfect way she talked to all of us, hugged every single person in this room, the crew.

She has the intention to return to the show, even though it feels like the hardest thing to do.

“It’s also her home and where she feels so loved, and she is beyond loved here. And so we’re happy that she is home.”

Hoda Kotb — who quit Today in January 2025 — has stepped in to cover for Savannah during her absence.
