Police made a shocking discovery after intervening in a heated argument outside a popular bar.

A man has been accused of leaving a four-month-old baby in a car while he visited a bar in a notoriously dodgy area.

Metro Nashville police said that Jordan Hayley left the infant in the front seat of his car on October 18 while he queued to enter Jason Aldean’s Kitchen + Rooftop Bar in downtown Nashville, according to local news outlet KGNS News.

Police learned of the shocking incident when they noticed the 25-year-old arguing with a woman, believed to be the infant’s mother, outside of the Broadway bar.

“The female party was screaming at the defendant and he was also exchanging words with her,” police said.

“Both were in each other’s faces.”

Once the pair were separated by police, the unnamed woman said she was upset because Hayley was supposed to be looking after their baby daughter and questioned him on where the infant was.

“In short, she was worried about her child’s welfare,” an affidavit seen by the news outlet read.

When questioned by police, the father said his child’s grandmother was babysitting, but arrest papers said the woman “denied that being possible”.

After confiscating Mr Hayley’s car keys, police found the four-month old baby sitting inside his vehicle, which was parked and left running in a nearby carpark.

According to FOX17, the area the car was parked is known as being crowded and frequented by disorderly and intoxicated people.

The infant was alone, sitting in a baby seat which was facing the wrong direction.

The father was arrested and later charged with child neglect and leaving an unattended child in a motor vehicle.

The four-month-old was reunited with her mother.

Mr Hayley is expected to appear in court later this week.
