A college student has lost all three members of his immediate family following a highway crash in the United States’ northeast.

David Dryerman, 54, his wife Michele, 54, and their 17-year-old daughter Brooke were killed on the Garden State Parkway in New Jersey about 11.55pm on Saturday.

The Woodcliff Lake trio were in a Tesla Model S that left the road and struck a sign, a guardrail and concrete bridge support, according to police.

They were returning from a music festival when the crash occurred.

Brooke had shared photos of the event on Instagram prior to her sudden passing.

Engineering student Max Dryerman, the only surviving family member, was away at college at the time.

A GoFundMe launched to support him has raised more than $AUD206,000.

“Donations will go to support Max as he returns to college as well as charities of Max’s choice,” a note on the campaign said.

“He’s considering donating to Camp Raspberry, an after-school program for children with special needs. Brooke served as co-president of the Pascack Hills High School chapter.

“Max would also like to donate to an organisation supporting teens battling anxiety and depression, as well as to Jewish causes.”

About 150 people gathered at a candle-lighting ceremony on Sunday where the family was described as generous members of the community.

School of Rock Waldwick said their bandmate David was a “dear friend”.

“Our deepest sympathies go out to the Dryerman family during this difficult time,” a post on Facebook read.

“David was a cherished member of our adult jam. He is survived by his son, Max, who has also played keys with us for many years.”

Woodcliff Lake Mayor Carlos A. Rendo said the incident was a “terrible tragedy” and “ordered that our flags be lowered.”

“I am in shock. Please keep the family in your prayers,” he said.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
