Phillip Ormerod: 102-year-old man dies following alleged assault in pub in Wales
Police have identified the victim of the alleged assault on August 1 following his death in hospital.
A 102-year-old man has died almost two weeks after an assault at a pub in Wales.
The man, named by Gwent Police, as Philip Ormerod from Cwmbran, died in hospital following a reported assault at The Crow’s Nest pub in Cwmbran at 10.25pm on Saturday, August 1.
The police service said a 56-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of assault, but has been released under investigation while enquiries into the incident continued as authorities continued to appeal for witnesses.

By continuing you agree to our Terms and Privacy Policy.“Officers attended along with crews from the Welsh Ambulance Service and a 102-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment,” a statement from Gwent Police said.
“The man, who can now be named as Phillip Ormerod from Cwmbran, has since sadly died while in hospital.”
Senior Investigating Officer, DCI Shelley Comley said: “We understand the public interest in this incident but want to remind people that not only is this an active criminal investigation but there is a family at heart of it processing the loss of a loved one.
“Please consider the impact that inaccurate or speculative comments – particularly online commentary - could have on them and the ongoing investigation as a whole.
“Anyone who was in the pub between 10pm and 11pm on Saturday 1 August and hasn’t yet spoken to police is asked to contact us.”
Cwmbran is a planned new city in south east Wales, lying about 30km northeast of Cardiff.
