A royal insider has responded to shocking rumours that Prince William and Kate Middleton are heading for divorce.

Reports started circulating online that the Prince, 43, and Princess of Wales, 44, were about to announce their separation.

The rumours began after a video emerged of William arriving by helicopter at Kensington Palace with children Prince George, 12, and Princess Charlotte, 10.

They were seen carrying overnight bags, with some social media users claiming the footage showed a “parental handover”.

The rumour was further fuelled when William failed to publicly acknowledge Kate’s birthday on January 9 — which he has done in previous year.

This year, Kate marked the occasion with a reflective, nature-themed video shared to social media, but the video had no appearance from William and he did not comment on the post.

However, a source close to the couple has now spoken out, claiming the couple are “frustrated” by the rumour, with the insider telling New Idea “nothing could be further from the truth”.

“Kate and William are going through some challenges though. She’s still in remission from cancer and they have three young kids after all, but it’s nothing like what’s being whispered about. Frankly, they’re annoyed by the claims,” the source told the publication.

The source also claimed Kate actually asked William not to comment on her birthday post as “she wanted to let her video message stand alone”.

The source added the pair will mark their 15th wedding anniversary in April and that “people shouldn’t read too much into” what happens online.
