King Charles and Queen Camilla will travel Down Under next month for the first time since Charles ascended to the throne.

In a revealing insight into the lives of the rich and famous, King Charles “shrieked” and “trembled” at the sight of cling wrap.

It sounds incredible that any middle-aged or elderly man would never have come across the popular household item, a kitchen staple in most homes — even with a plethora of butlers, waiters and chefs on hand to do your every bidding.

But it seems the British monarch entered the kitchen one day for a snack and was startled to see the everyday item.

The incident has been passed on by royal author Tom Bower, who wrote Rebel Prince about Prince Philip.

In his book he revealed that the King walked into a dining room and shrieked.

Fearing the worst, his wife Camilla Parker Bowles raced in to see what the commotion was about.

“What’s this?” asked King Charles, pointing at the food.

Camilla replied: “It’s cling film, darling.”

Clarence House has never commented on Bower’s claim but it paints an interesting portrayal of life in the royal family.

It comes as the King, who is battling an undisclosed form of cancer, has broken the habit of a lifetime and started eating lunch to keep up his energy levels, albeit half an avocado.

The 75-year-old monarch will fly to Australia for a high-profile tour next week, visiting Sydney and Canberra.
